Lufthansa has welcomed the newest members of their 100th anniversary fleet, an Airbus A321-200 painted in the design of the legendary Lockheed Super Star, as well as an Airbus A350-900 featuring the iconic XXL crane design.

On Tuesday (February 3, 2026), Lufthansa announced that marking the 100th anniversary of the airline’s founding, another specially painted aircraft arrived in Frankfurt. The latest aircraft to join the centennial fleet, an Airbus A321-200, was painted in Norwich, England, in the design of the legendary Lockheed Super Star and flew from there to Frankfurt under flight number LH9898. The short and medium-haul aircraft with the registration D-AISZ arrived in Frankfurt at approximately 14:45 on Tuesday afternoon (February 3, 2026).
The Airbus A321 now bears the historic Lufthansa parable design. It was introduced in the mid-1950s and was inspired by the streamlined trend of the 1930s. It was intended to signal dynamism, speed, and a forward-looking approach. The parable line was not only visible on the aircraft’s tail fins, but also on baggage tags, business documents, flight schedules, and even cigar bands. Nearly 70 years after its maiden flight for Lufthansa, this iconic parable design can once again be seen in the skies.

The Lockheed Super Star joined Lufthansa’s fleet in 1957, and was the first aircraft to offer Senator Class, the most exclusive way to travel at the time. Its main focus was the non-stop connection to New York across the North Atlantic. As previously reported, a restored Lockheed L-1649A Super Star will soon be on display alongside a Junkers Ju 52 in the new Lufthansa Group Hangar One. The conference and visitor center at Frankfurt Airport will open in April.

In addition to the retro-liveried A321, Lufthansa’s anniversary fleet featuring the 100th anniversary XXL crane livery also grew on Monday with the arrival of an Airbus A350-900, registration D-AIXL, in Munich. The aircraft had previously been freshly painted in Châteauroux, France. This aircraft joins a Boeing 787-9 and an Airbus A320neo, both based in Frankfurt, already flying in the iconic 100-year design. Additionally, at least one Airbus A380, one Boeing 747-8, and one Airbus A350-1000 will follow in the coming weeks.
