On Friday (September 20, 2024), Ethiopian Airlines marked a major milestone, celebrating 60 years of continuous service to Rome, Italy. In celebration of the occasion the carrier hosted a jubilant celebration in the Eternal City attended by government officials from both Ethiopia and Italy, corporate guests, stakeholders, and Ethiopian Airlines executives. The celebration underscores the significance of Rome in Ethiopian’s global network, and the carrier’s dedication to strengthening their position as a key player connecting Africa and Europe.
Speaking at the celebration in Rome, Ethiopian Airlines Group’s CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, said,
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate 60 years of uninterrupted service to Rome. This milestone is a testament to our unwavering dedication to connecting people and fostering economic growth between Africa and Europe. We are grateful for the support of our valued customers and partners throughout these six decades.”
With Rome as Ethiopian Airlines’ first Italian destination six decades ago, the carrier added Milan to their network in 2011. Currently, the airline offers daily service to both cities, and starting December 1st, 2024, Ethiopian will increase frequencies between Addis Ababa and Rome to 10 flights weekly. Ethiopian Airlines serves more than 24 European destinations, and will soon add Port Sudan and Dhaka to their expanding global network.
