Boeing has today announced that the 787 Dreamliner fleet has surpassed one billion passengers faster than any widebody jet in history, accomplishing this feat in less than 14 years of service.

On Wednesday (April 30, 2025), Boeing announced a major milestone, as the 787 Dreamliner fleet has surpassed one billion passengers since entering service less than 14 years ago. This is the fastest time a widebody commercial airplane has achieved this landmark feat in history. Since entering service in 2011, the global fleet of over 1,175 Boeing 787 Dreamliner Family jets has flown nearly 5.0 million flights, covering more than 30 million flight hours. Marking the occasion, Boeing has released a video honoring the passengers, partners and people behind the success of the 787 Dreamliner Family.
In Wednesday’s announcement, Boeing’s 787 Program Vice President and General Manager, Scott Stocker, said,
“This milestone would not have been possible without the trust and confidence of our customers in operating the 787, and we are incredibly grateful for each of them. The 787 Dreamliner family was designed to connect people and places like never before. Flying over 1 billion passengers in this relatively short time is a testament to how the airplane has delivered on its promises to transform air travel with operational versatility, efficiency and comfort. This achievement reflects the dedication, talent and innovation of the teammates and partners who have brought the 787 family to life. To every operator flying the 787 and every one of the 1 billion passengers who have flown on a Dreamliner, thank you.”

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the best selling passenger widebody jet with 2000+ orders from 89 customers. The Dreamliner fleet operates across over 85 countries at more than 520 airports, and has facilitated the operation of 425+ new nonstop routes that were never previously served. Each day, 2,100 flights are operated by 787s, carrying more than 480,000 passengers daily and around 14.5 million people monthly. On average, each Dreamliner spends over 12 hours in the air daily, showcasing strong global demand and reliability. The longest direct route is flown by Qantas, 7,829 nautical miles between London and Perth, while the shortest route is flown by TUI, 65 nautical miles between Aruba and Curaçao.
The 787 Family is 25 percent more fuel efficient than the airplanes it replaces, thanks to new engines, an expanded use of lightweight composite material, more efficient systems applications and state-of-the-art aerodynamics. Boeing invites everyone connected to the 787, from operators to passengers, suppliers and Boeing employees to share their memories on social media using #Dreamliner.
