On Monday (November 6, 2023) CFM International announced that Xiamen Airlines has ordered CFM LEAP-1A engines to power 40 aircraft, including 15 A321neos and 25 A320neos. The carrier has also signed a services agreement with CFM covering their fleet of LEAP-1B and CFM56-7B engines. Xiamen Airlines has been a CFM customer since 1992, when they purchased their first CFM56-powered Boeing 737-500. Over the past 30+ years, CFM has been providing installed and spare engines, along with service solutions to the carrier. Currently, Xiamen Airlines operates a fleet of nearly 150 CFM-powered aircraft. The Chinese carrier introduced their first LEAP-1A-powered Airbus A321neo earlier this year.

In Monday’s announcement, Xiamen Airlines’ Chairman, Dong Zhao, said,

“We have long-standing relationship with CFM and 100% of our fleet is powered by CFM and GE engines. Xiamen Airlines supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and has adopted sustainable development as one of our strategic priorities during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Joining hands again, we will continue to reduce fuel consumption, and fulfill our commitments to carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals through innovation, providing safe, comfortable and sustainable travel options to our passengers.”

Also commenting on the engine and services order, CFM International’s President – Greater China, Weiming Xiang, added,

“We highly value our long-term collaboration with Xiamen Airlines, and are delighted to enhance our cooperation during the 6th China International Import Expo. We will continue to provide safe and reliable products and services to support the smooth operation of their Airbus fleet and contribute to their sustainable development as we invent the future of flight together.”

The CFM LEAP engine Family delivers 15-20 percent better fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions compared to previous generation engines. Since entering service in 2016, the LEAP engine has accumulated over 40 million engine flight hours and 17 million flight cycles, saving more than 28 million tons of CO2 emissions.

Founded in 1984, Xiamen Airlines is headquartered in Xiamen City, Fujian Province. The carrier was China’s first airline created in accordance with the modern corporate system, and over the last 35 years has operated with distinction in China’s civil aviation industry.
