Wizz Air is launching 18 new routes from their London Gatwick base for summer 2022. The carrier will also add four A321neos to the base, and today’s announcment coincides with the reopening of Gatwick’s South Terminal, marking a positive step in travel recovery.
On Monday (March 28, 2022) Wizz Air announced the launch of 18 new routes from their London Gatwick base for the summer 2022 season. The new routes include a mix of year-round and seasonal service to Bari, Burgas, faro, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Rome, Palma de Mallorca, Larnaca, Varna, Venice, Vienna, Catania, Podgorica, Tel Aviv, Chania, Mykonos and Funchal. With the new routes, Wizz will now offer service to 25 destinations from London Gatwick. To accommodate the new routes, Wizz will add four Airbus A321neos to the base. Today’s announcment also coincides with the reopening of Gatwick’s South Terminal, marking a positive step in the recovery of the travel industry.
Speaking on the carrier’s Gatwick expansion, Wizz Air’s Managing Director – Wizz Air UK, Marion Geoffroy, said,

“The lifting of all Covid-19 travel restrictions is an extremely positive development for the travel industry and passengers alike, with customers once again being able to travel hassle-free to their favourite destinations. Also commenting on the carrier’s expansion, Gatwick Airport’s Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Pollard, added,

Wizz’s expansion and commitment to Gatwick marks the start of an exciting time for the airport as well as the airline, coinciding with the reopening of Gatwick’s South Terminal. Wizz’s growing range of destinations is excellent news for passengers across London and the South East, providing more choice and competition to in-demand destinations. Importantly, it’s also fantastic news for the local economy, with more than 200 jobs created as a direct result of the new services.”
Since opening their London Gatwick base in 2020, Wizz Air UK has offered a range of popular and off the beaten track destinations for customers from London and the South of England. The base expansion will also provide a boost to the local economy with the creation of 210 direct jobs, and many more indirect jobs. The carrier’s successful bid for 15 daily slot pairs at Gatwick last December will allow the airline to expand their based aircraft fleet from one to five Airbus A321neos.
