Wizz Air Opens New Base at Cardiff Airport in Wales

Wizz Air has launched their fourth UK base, with a new a new operating base at Cardiff Airport in Wales. The carrier will base one efficient Airbus A321neo in Cardiff and initially offer routes to nine fun and sun destinations.

On Friday (April 8, 2022), Wizz Air announced the opening of a new base at Cardiff Airport in Wales, the carrier’s fourth UK base, with one fuel-efficient Airbus A321neo. Initially, the airline will offer service from Cardiff to nine sunshine destinations including Alicante, Faro, Heraklion, Palma de Mallorca, Larnaca, Lanzarote and Tenerife, with service to Corfu from June and Sharm El Sheikh in November. To celebrate the new base, Wizz Air is offering one-way fares on the new Cardiff routes from £12.99. Cardiff Airport is Wizz Air’s first foray into Wales, and the new base will create over 40 direct and 250 indirect jobs. The carrier is currently recruiting cabin and flight crew at Cardiff Airport, and welcomes applications from experienced cabin crew, as well as those without experience. An open recruitment day will be held at the Holiday Inn Cardiff City Centre on April 14, 2022.

In Friday’s announcment, Wizz Air UK’s Managing Director, Marion Geoffrey, said,

By bringing our new and efficient Airbus aircraft to Cardiff, the wings of which are manufactured in Wales, we are providing a significant boost to the Welsh economy and creating jobs. The base, which is our fourth in the UK, will bring further connectivity to the region, with passengers in Wales and the South West of England now able to take advantage of our ultra-low fares to “fly local” to their favourite getaways. We’ve been busy building our Cardiff team, and as we continue to recruit, we encourage those looking for their next adventure to apply today. We look forward to the upcoming summer season, as we welcome new passengers with affordable, direct flights to popular holiday destinations.”


Also commenting on the opening of Wizz Air’s newest base, Cardiff Airport’s Chief Executive Officer, Spencer Birns, said,
