Wizz Air Increases Footprint in Bucharest With the Delivery of Three New Aircraft

With the delivery of three new aircraft on Monday, October 3, 2022, Wizz Air will expand their offer from Bucharest with increased frequency on over 20 routes. Wizz Air Is Romania’s largest, and Europe’s fastest growing airline.

On Monday (October 3, 2022), Wizz Air announced the delivery of three new aircraft, which will be based in Bucharest, Romania. All three aircraft started operating to/from Bucharest on Monday, with the first aircraft arriving from Valencia in Spain. The new capacity will allow the carrier to add frequencies on over 20 existing routes, providing around 1.2 million additional seats to Romanian passengers annually. Wizz Air is the largest operator in Romania with 36 based aircraft, including 15 aircraft based at Bucharest ‘Henri Coanda’ International Airport, increasing to 17 by the end of 2022. The additional aircraft will also support three new routes from Bucharest to Athens, Prague and Larnaca from December 2022.


In Monday’s announcment, Wizz Air’s Acting Network officer, Evelin Jeckel, said,


“We remain committed to the Romanian market and, with these three new aircraft delivered today at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport, we are excited to introduce 1.200.000 yearly additional seats for Romanian passengers. The increased frequencies on over 20 routes will thus better support Wizz Air operations and will help us fulfil our duty to ensure a safe and pleasant travel experience, even in these still challenging times for the industry. Now offering 67 routes from Bucharest and close to 200 routes from Romania, Wizz Air firmly establishes itself as the market leader, ensuring diverse and popular destinations to its passengers.”

Budapest, Hungary-based Wizz Air is the fastest growing European low-cost carrier (LCC) and operates an all Airbus A320 and A321 fleet of 157 aircraft. Wizz Air is the largest LCC in Central and Eastern Europe and offering over 700 routes from 45 bases. During FY 22 (ending March 31, 2022) the airline served approximately 27.1 million guests.
