Wizz Air Announces Major Network Expansion in Bucharest

Wizz Air will enhance connectivity from Bucharest, with the allocation of a second based aircraft and the relocation of more flights to Baneasa Airport. The carrier is also launching six new routes from Otopeni Airport.

On Thursday (July 10, 2025), Wizz Air announced that they will allocate a second aircraft, an Airbus A321ceo, to its operational base at Bucharest Baneasa - Aurel Vlaicu International Airport from October this year. The carrier will also relocate nine routes from Otopeni Airport to Baneasa Airport, with five to be operated exclusively from Bucharest’s secondary airport. Wizz will also add six new routes at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport. Starting October 26, 2025, the carrier will launch new service to Milan Bergamo, Barcelona, Brussels-Charleroi and Turin from both Otopeni and Baneasa. Five additional routes will operate exclusively from Baneasa to Basel, Frankfurt, Memmingen, Nice and Athens.
In Thursday’s announcement, Wizz Air Malta’s Managing Director, Mauro Peneda, said,
“Romania, and the city of Bucharest, remains our biggest and most strategic market, and the allocation of a second aircraft at Baneasa Airport highlights our commitment to continuous growth in the country. By relocating important flight frequencies to Baneasa, closer to our passengers, and launching six new routes from Otopeni in the next winter season, we are offering our passengers greater flexibility and access to affordable travel options. We are proud to meet the growing demand for low-cost flights while strengthening regional connectivity.”
Additionally, Wizz Air will launch six new routes to five countries from Otopeni Airport. Flights from Bucharest Otopeni to Brindisi and Cologne will start on October 26th, to Gdansk on October 27th, as well as to Porto, Pescara and Bratislava on October 28, 2025.
