On Monday (April 29, 2024), WestJet announced the launch of new daily service between Edmonton (YEG) and Atlanta (ATL), with the departure of flight WS1902 at 00:45 MDT this morning.  The daily flight will depart Edmonton at 00:45 MDT and touch down in Atlanta at 07:06 EDT, while the return flight departs Atlanta at 09:05 EDT and arrives back in Edmonton at 11:50 MDT (all times local).  Celebrating the carrier’s transborder network expansion, WestJet, Edmonton International Airport, and other partners held a special event at the airport earlier today.

In Monday’s announcement, WestJet’s EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,

“Our new route to Atlanta will bolster incredible connectivity for Edmonton, stimulating critical new opportunities for the city's vibrant business sector and visitor economy to grow and thrive.  With year-round service, we are opening up Edmonton to the world and the world to Edmonton with convenient access to a mega-global hub, which hosts more than 1,000 flights per day to more than 200 international and domestic destinations.”

Also commenting on the new Atlanta service, Edmonton International Airport’s President & CEO, Myron Keehn, said,

“WestJet’s new non-stop service to Atlanta from Edmonton supports the growth of new business and tourism opportunities between our regions.  WestJet continues to be a key partner in achieving our vision of bringing more flights to more places from YEG.  Travellers can now discover why Atlanta is one of National Geographic's top destinations in the world in one of the most business-friendly states in the U.S.  We are pleased that this new route gives passengers the opportunity to explore even further the over 200 connecting destinations globally through Atlanta.”

Thanks to WestJet’s longstanding partnership with Delta Air Lines, inbound customers to Atlanta will enjoy seamless one-stop connectivity to Delta’s expansive U.S. network. They will also benefit from a single ticket, check-in for all flights on first departure, baggage checked to their final destination, and lounge access for select guests.  Additionally, frequent flyers of both airlines will enjoy earning and redeeming opportunities while flying either airline, along with extensive reciprocal benefits.

With 28 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent.  The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 100 destinations in 26 countries.
