WestJet is ramping up their network across Canada in the coming days and weeks. The carrier will restart seven Atlantic Canada routes, restore and launch five from Saskatchewan, nine from Ontario, ten from Alberta and eight from British Columbia.
On Friday (June 25, 2021), WestJet announced that in the coming days and weeks they will restart routes and reconnect Atlantic Canada, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Seven routes will be restarted across Atlantic Canada by July 2nd, with new nonstop service between Calgary and Charlottetown launching on July 29th. Saskatchewan will see the restoration and inauguration of five routes to and from destinations across Alberta and British Columbia from Saskatoon and Regina.
Speaking on the carrier’s network restoration on Friday, WestJet’s Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,
“We continue to work towards the restoration of our pre-COVID domestic network to ensure that when our guests are ready to travel, we are there for them. WestJet remains committed to building back stronger for the betterment of all Canadians and as we look ahead to reconnecting friends, family and loved ones, the safe restart of travel is essential to Canada's economic recovery."
WestJet will also restart nine routes from Ontario and inaugurate new service from Toronto and Ottawa. By June 30, 2021, the nine resumes routes from Ontario will include service to and from destinations across Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador. This July, WestJet will offer nonstop service from Toronto to 26 cities, from Ottawa to five cities, from London Ontario to two cities and will offer service to one city from Hamilton and Windsor.
Additionally, the airline will restore Alberta’s connectivity with the restart of 10 routes to and from destinations across British Columbia, the Yukon, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Nova Scotia from Calgary, Edmonton and Medicine Hat. WestJet will also launch three new routes to and from Edmonton and begin nonstop service between Calgary and Charlottetown.
Finally, WestJet will reconnect British Columbia with the restart of eight routes across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. By the end of June, the airline will inaugurate new flights between Abbotsford and Prince George and restore WestJet Link service between Vancouver and Cranbrook. Additionally, the carrier will inaugurate 10 new routes by July 5, 2021. This July, WestJet will offer nonstop service from Vancouver to 18 cities, from Victoria to eight cities, from Kelowna to seven cities, from Comox to four cities and from Nanaimo to three cities, while Kamloops, Penticton and Prince George will enjoy nonstop connections to two communities.
Celebrating 25 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to 100 destinations in 23 countries (pre-pandemic). Even during these unprecedented times, the carrier has maintained their rating by Cirium as one of the top ten airlines for on-time performance in North America.
