WestJet is also launching new daily nonstop service between Toronto and Chicago from May 19, 2022.

In Monday’s announcment, WestJet’s Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,

“We know Canadians are ready to make their highly anticipated return to travel this summer, so whether it's reconnecting with friends and family, or taking that long overdue trip, we are here to help our guests make up for lost time. The aviation industry is a formidable economic engine and the investments we have made across Canada and internationally affirm our commitment to restoring connectivity across our expansive global network, while doing our part to expedite Canada's economic recovery.

“Our guests have long awaited a return to international travel. These routes create a significant visitor pipeline from Europe and demonstrate WestJet's commitment to leading the travel and tourism industry's recovery.

“The restoration of our Alberta network marks a major milestone in WestJet and the province's recovery as we rebuild our network and strengthen critical connections to global hubs and business economies. We are also thrilled to provide daily non-stop service between Toronto and Chicago, two dynamic global cities. Whether travelling for business or leisure, this new route provides guests with increased options to discover these two vibrant cities or seamlessly connect to their chosen destination via our expansive network.”

This summer WestJet is significantly reinvesting in their international connectivity to Atlantic Canada with increased service from Halifax to Paris, London, Dublin, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The carrier will also resume direct service between Calgary and Rome. From Alberta, WestJet will restore services to pre-pandemic levels with over 180 daily departures from Calgary and Edmonton. From Calgary, the carrier will offer 142 daily departures including 35 domestic, 16 transborder and eight international destinations, while Edmonton will see 38 daily departures including 15 domestic and two transborder destinations.

Celebrating 25 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to 100 destinations in 23 countries (pre-pandemic). Even during these unprecedented times, the carrier has maintained their rating by Cirium as one of the top ten airlines for on-time performance in North America.
