WestJet Launches Inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Service From Toronto to London-Gatwick

On Wednesday, WestJet launched their inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner service from Toronto to London-Gatwick. On Tuesday, the company announced additional transatlantic Dreamliner service from Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver for summer 2020.

WestJet wants transatlantic passengers to experience their new Business and Premium 787-9 Dreamliner service from Toronto to London-Gatwick. The new daily Dreamliner service began today and replaces existing service which was operated with a Boeing 767. The new service complements their existing Calgary-London service, with Vancouver-London (Gatwick) service beginning April 26, 2020. WestJet’s Dreamliner is set up in a three-class configuration (Business, Premium and Economy) and can accommodate 320 passengers. In today’s announcement, WestJet VP Network Planning Services, Brian Znotins stated,


This is a significant first for our guests who now have access to WestJet Dreamliner nonstop between Toronto and London, U.K. The Dreamliner was built for transoceanic routes with technology that reduces jetlag and leaves travelers feeling more refreshed upon arrival. We are proud to welcome guests on the board the most comfortable aircraft we ever operated.”


On Tuesday, WestJet announced daily Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner service between Vancouver and London-Gatwick, beginning April 26, 2020. The company also announced that Calgary-Paris service would resume on March 12, 2020 and Calgary-Dublin service would operate three times weekly during peak season. Domestic passengers will experience daily Dreamliner service between Calgary and Toronto starting in June. In Tuesday’s announcement, WestJet Chief Commercial Officer, Arved von zur Muehlen stated,

“As we receive our next 787 Dreamliner deliveries, we’re thrilled to offer our business and leisure travelers this same convenient daily flight but on our newest state-of-the-art aircraft. By increasing capacity by over forty percent between Vancouver and London, Gatwick guests can enjoy a superior travel experience featuring our award-winning service on either side of the Atlantic.”


In a separate press release on Tuesday, WestJet announced earlier Dreamliner service between London-Gatwick and Calgary, starting April 14, 2020. During 2020, WestJet will take delivery of three new Boeing 787 Dreamliners, bringing their Dreamliner fleet total up to six, with plans for as many as 20.
