WestJet celebrated the launch of new service between Halifax and Edinburgh with the departure of flight WS46 on Thursday (June 20th) at 22:35. The carrier also celebrated the restart of Halifax-Dublin service the previous day.
On Thursday (June 20, 2024), WestJet announced the launch of inaugural service between Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) and Edinburgh, with that departure of flight WS46 at 22:35. This follows the restart of flights between Halifax and Dublin on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Earlier this year, WestJet Group’s CEO, Alexis von Hoensbroech visited Halifax, where he met with key stakeholders to discuss the Group’s expanding presence across the region.
In Thursday’s announcement, WestJet’s Vice President of External Affairs, Andrew Gibbons, said,
“Further solidifying our position as Canada’s leading leisure airline, this flight is another milestone in our commitment to enhancing Atlantic Canada's business and leisure ties through air connectivity. With today’s inaugural service, we are thrilled to further strengthen the connection between Halifax and Edinburgh as we continue to expand strategic air access across the region.”
With 28 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 100 destinations in 26 countries.
