On Monday (October 24, 2022), WestJet announced an expansion of their longstanding partnership with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, with the addition of their ‘WS’ code on KLM-operated flights between Calgary and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS). WestJet guests will also enjoy seamless onward connectivity via AMS to and from 20 cities across 12 European countries including Vienna, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Athens, Milan, Lisbon, Glasgow and Manchester. Along with the restart of WestJet’s direct Boeing 787 Dreamliner service between Amsterdam and Calgary on November 14, 2022, the restart of KLM codeshared flights will provide more options for guests traveling between Canadian and European points.

In Monday’s announcement, WestJet’s Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,

“Our guests will benefit from more opportunities to travel between Europe and Canada with this important codesharing with our partner KLM. We look forward to strengthening travel and tourism ties between the countries served by our global networks, supported by the return of our non-stop Dreamliner service from Calgary to Amsterdam.”

Customers traveling on codeshared flights will enjoy optimized connections in AMS, through check-in for all flights at first departure point, baggage checked through to their final destination, and the ability to earn and redeem WestJet Rewards on all flights.

In 26 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to 100 destinations in 23 countries (pre-pandemic). Even during the pandemic, WestJet maintained their rating by Cirium as one of the top ten airlines for on-time performance in North America.
