WestJet Announces New Transatlantic Halifax-Manchester Service And Domestic Charlottetown Route

WestJet announced on Friday a series of network expansions including seasonal nonstop service between Halifax, Nova Scotia and Manchester in the U.K. Additionally, the carrier will launch service between Calgary and Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Today, Canada’s WestJet announced new service from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Manchester in the U.K. for the summer 2020 season. The flight between Halifax-Stanfield (YHZ) and Manchester Airport (MAN) will operate four times weekly from June 5, 2020 and will be serviced with a Boeing 737-700. WestJet will also operate over 300 seasonal departures from Halifax to London-Gatwick and Glasgow, Scotland. Manchester is considered a global gateway to northern England and WestJet guests wishing to travel beyond the lively industrial football-loving city will be offered seamless connections to 16 destinations on Virgin Connect. In Friday’s announcement, WestJet’s Chief Strategy Officer, Charles Duncan said,


“WestJet is continuing to invest in our Atlantic gateway, connecting Nova Scotia to the world and the world to Nova Scotia in new ways. The U.K. is Nova Scotia’s largest in-bound tourism market and our newest investment connects the province to new sources of tourists.”


WestJet began service at Halifax-Stanfield in 2003 and has since experienced 300 percent growth, offering 60 daily departures to 16 cities. The four weekly flights to Manchester will depart Halifax at 10:45PM and arrive in Manchester at 8:10AM the next morning. The return flight departs Manchester at 9:45AM, arriving Halifax at 11:52AM. Halifax-Manchester service will be available between June 5 and October 24, 2020, while Manchester-Halifax service will be offered from June 6 to October 24, 2020.


In a separate announcement on Friday, WestJet also announced new domestic connections between eastern and western Canada with seasonal nonstop service between Calgary and Charlottetown P.E.I. starting June 25, 2020. In today’s announcement, WestJet’s Chief Strategy Officer, Charles Duncan further stated,


“As the official airline of Destination Canada’s domestic tourism campaign, we are proud to invest in this historic new connection. Our partners in both P.E.I. and Alberta are excited with the opportunity this service represents as both have a new opportunity to market their world-class tourism assets. This flight is a unique opportunity for Canadians looking to explore our country.”


The service between Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Charlottetown Airport (YYG) will operate four times weekly and the route will be serviced with a Boeing 737. The flights from Charlottetown to Calgary have been conveniently timed, allowing seamless connections from WestJet’s largest hub to destinations across Western Canada including Vancouver, Edmonton, Kelowna and Victoria. The route will be operated seasonally between June 25th and September 7, 2020.

Since introducing service from Prince Edward Island and Charlottetown in 2005, WestJet has more than doubled their service and will offer over 67,000 seats to YYG for the summer 2020 season. The four weekly flights to Charlottetown will depart Calgary at 10:45AM and arrive in Charlottetown at 6:35AM the next morning. The return flight departs Charlottetown at 7:15AM and arrives in Calgary at 9:33AM.
