WestJet has announced that they will modernize the interiors of former all-economy Boeing 737-8 MAX and 737-800 aircraft to offer a refreshed range of seating options.

On Tuesday (September 23, 2025), WestJet announced that they are investing in a consistent onboard guest experience with a new cabin interior and amenities to create a cohesive look and feel across the carrier’s formerly economy-only aircraft. The full cabin refresh will introduce upgraded Premium seating, and significantly expand the offering of popular Extended Comfort seating options. The upgraded design will feature new seats, adjustable headrests and enhanced cushion and back support, with a fixed recline design in Economy that helps preserve personal space. Additionally, the interior will include in-seat power, personal device holders and reworked lavatories and galleys.
In Tuesday’s announcement, WestJet’s EVP and Chief Experience Officer, Samantha Taylor, said,
“The cabin has been thoughtfully designed to offer WestJet’s welcoming service at every budget. It reflects our commitment to elevating every aspect of the travel experience and meeting guest demand for a broader range of product offerings.
“WestJet has always been a pioneer in making air travel available to Canadians, largely through keeping costs low to offer affordable airfares. The layout for our refreshed cabin caters to our guests’ diverse preferences. Whether they opt for Premium seating with extra amenities and legroom or for more affordable ticket prices with less space, we’re excited to introduce this range of products for our guests to enjoy.”
WestJet’s new 737 aircraft interiors will feature a refreshed Premium cabin with 12 new seats that are the same model as in WestJet's 787-9 Dreamliner fleet. These seats offer ergonomically contoured seat cushions, reclining seatbacks and a large headrest with four-way adjustment capability. The economy cabin will feature a new and larger Extended Comfort section, located directly behind Premium. This section will feature 36 seats with extra legroom and will be separated from the Economy cabin by a cabin divider.
Additionally, standard seating in the Economy cabin will offer choices ranging from less space at the back to more space near the front of the cabin. The upgraded seats feature seatback contouring to maximize legroom, as well as ergonomically designed, contoured bottom and back cushions.
WestJet’s cabin enhancements will be complemented by WestJet Wi-Fi presented by TELUS offering best-in-class, high-speed, low-latency internet technology. WestJet Wi-Fi is free for WestJet Rewards members and is already revolutionizing the way guests’ stream, shop, play and work onboard. Installation of WestJet Wi-Fi across the fleet is ongoing and is scheduled to be completed on all of thew carrier's Boeing 737-800 and 737-8 MAX aircraft by the end of 2025.
