WestJet has today announced a ban of bare feet onboard. Guests will now be required to keep shoes, socks, slippers and other foot coverage on at all times.

On Wednesday (April 1, 2026), WestJet announced that with warm weather on the horizon, they are reaffirming their onboard footwear expectations by putting a ban on bare feet. Guests are now required to keep shoes, socks, slippers or other forms of foot coverage on at all times, including during takeoff, landing, and while moving about the cabin. Anyone with bare feet will be asked to cover them immediately.
In Wednesday’s announcement, WestJet Group’s VP – Brand and Marketing, Steph Ng, said,
“Guests should fly with confidence knowing they won’t encounter anyone else’s bare piggies in flight. The barefoot ban applies to all guests at all times, including when feet are at rest, in motion or simply enjoying the ride. Whether enjoying a snack, settling in for a nap or engaging in surprisingly deep personal reflection, guests are asked to keep their feet fully covered for the duration of the flight.”
Naturally, proper footwear has always been required onboard WestJet flights. For 30 years, WestJet has been helping Canadians travel the world, while observing feet do remarkable things along the way. In the spirit of both, and April Fool’s Day, you can watch WestJet’s barefoot ban video here.
