WestJet and Virgin Atlantic have expanded their codeshare partnership, which will enhance international connectivity for Canadians via London Heathrow across Virgin’s network, including several points in India.
On Monday (June 10, 2024), WestJet announced that they have expanded their codeshare partnership with Virgin Atlantic, which will further international connectivity for Canadians via London Heathrow, to destinations across Virgin’s network. From winter 2024, the expanded partnership will provide WestJet’s guests one-stop connectivity from Calgary to Virgin Atlantic’s global London Heathrow hub to new destinations such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Lagos, Nigeria, Dubai, and the Maldives.
In Monday’s announcement, WestJet’s Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,
“Through the expansion of our existing partnership with Virgin Atlantic, we are unlocking amazing opportunities for our guests to access an extensive list of new destinations and to experience Virgin Atlantic's innovative products and services beyond London. With daily flights from our global hub in Calgary to London, Canadians have never had better international access from across Western Canada to the United Kingdom and beyond.”
Additionally, the airlines will work towards reciprocal frequent flyer benefits for WestJet Rewards and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club members by 2025. With the expanded partnership, WestJet enables connectivity beyond destinations in Europe for the very first time. The carrier's guests will soon enjoy the convenience of booking their entire journey on a single ticket, and will benefit from seamless connectivity at London Heathrow with baggage transfers, as well as the ability to earn WestJet Dollars across all flight segments.
With 28 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 100 destinations in 26 countries.
