Western Global Airlines has placed a firm order for two Boeing 777 Freighters, the first new production freighter order for the Estero, Florida-based all-Boeing cargo operator. The order was finalized in January and also includes an additional purchase option.
On Wednesday (February 16, 2022), Boeing announced that Estero, Florida-based cargo operator Western Global Airlines has purchased two new Boeing 777 Freighters. The agreement also includes an additional purchase option for Western Global, an all-Boeing aircraft operator. The order was originally finalized in January 2022 and is currently listed as ‘unidentified’ in Boeing’s order backlog. Western Global has flown to over 400 airports in 135 countries on six continents. The carrier currently owns and operates a fleet of 21 Boeing 747-400 and MD-11 Freighters, and provides global turn-key services for a variety of blue chip logistics companies, e-commerce platforms and the U.S. Department of Defense.
In today’s announcement, Western Global Airlines’ Founder and CEO, Jim Neff, said,
“Western Global is pleased to acquire new-build 777 Freighter aircraft. As the world's fastest growing cargo airline, we have determined that augmenting our existing fleet with new 777 Freighters will enable us to best serve our customers while providing a clear path to our future fleet plans.”
Also commenting on the new 777 Freighter order, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Ihssane Mounir, said,
“The addition of 777 Freighters will enable Western Global to continue its growth, providing increased capability and flexibility to its operations. These new freighters will complement its existing all-Boeing fleet and we are committed to deepening the partnership between our companies, which has existed since Western Global's inception.”
Boeing’s 777 Freighter has a range of 4,970 nautical miles (9,200 kilometers) and can carry a maximum payload of 107 metric tons (235,900 lbs). The aircraft’s capability allows airlines to operate long-haul routes with fewer stops and additional landing fees, resulting in the lowest average trip cost of any large freighter. Boeing has forecast that the global freighter fleet will grow by 70 percent over the next 20 years in support of expanding global e-commerce business and evolving supply chains.
