Virgin Australia has announced that their Velocity Frequent Flyer program has launched ‘Pay with Points’, offering a new way to turn points into rewards onboard Virgin Australia flights.

On Saturday (May 31, 2025), Virgin Australia announced that their Velocity Frequent Flyer program has launched ‘Pay with Points’, a new way for members to turn points into rewards onboard Virgin Australia. Velocity members can now use their Velocity Points to pay for food and beverages on select Virgin Australia operated domestic and short-haul international flights, with no additional fees. With this new option, Velocity becomes the first local airline rewards program to offer Point redemption for onboard purchases.
In Saturday’s announcement, Velocity Frequent Flyer’s CEO, Nick Rohrlach, said,
“Pay with Points is a game-changer for airline loyalty in Australia. It gives our members the power to redeem Points, creating a more seamless and rewarding experience every time they fly with Virgin Australia. We’re proud to be piloting this innovation and will continue to refine the experience while expanding the ways members can use this technology in the future.”
In order to use Pay With Points, Velocity members should simply link their account to an eligible Visa credit or debit card via the app. When flying, customers simply pay as usual with the linked card, and after landing, will receive a notification to tap and Pay with Points. The purchase price will then be credited back to the linked card within two to ten business days.
