On Thursday (March 25, 2021), Virgin Australia announced the launch of their new Business Class menu featuring locally sourced produce in support of Australian growers and farmers. Additionally, the carrier has revealed their new Economy Class ‘buy onboard’ menu with popular snacks and beverages. Complementing the new menu offers, Virgin Australia is also offering better value for Business and Economy guests with lower fares, following a 20 percent reduction in Business Class fares announced last November.

In Thursday’s announcement, Virgin Australia Group’s CEO and Managing Director, Jayne Hrdlicka, said,

“We’re continuing to write a new chapter at Virgin Australia and we’re incredibly focused on creating great experiences for our guests. Today we’ve delivered an exceptional Business Class product and more choice and value for Economy guests that we know they’re going to love. Our new Business Class menu and service design is high quality, relaxed, uncomplicated and exactly what our guests and team members have told us they want. I’m really proud of what we’ve delivered. The launch of our new Business Class food experience and a commitment to reduce airfares even further by the middle of this year, is a really great example of just how irresistible it is to fly with Virgin Australia.”

Further commenting on the airline's new Economy ‘buy onboard’ menu, Ms. Hrdlicka added,

“Today’s customers are more conscious about what they consume than ever before. We like to choose what we eat and what we drink throughout the day – we are simply extending that choice onboard as well. By removing snacks that aren’t valued by our guests we’re able to structurally reduce airfares making it even cheaper to fly. We’ll continue to offer complimentary tea, coffee and water on all flights and the opportunity for guests to purchase their favourite menu items at a reasonable price.”

Heralding in a new era, with the relaunch of Virgin Australia, the airline has introduced a new, modern, fresh Business Class menu including a range of hot meals, healthy salads and Australian classics. The new menu will be served on tableware with crockery, glassware and cutlery, providing a quality inflight experience, while reducing single-use packaging. The new menu will rotate on a bi-monthly basis and includes premium Australian wine and beer, plus spirits and soft drinks.

After spending a significant amount of time in consultation with guests and team members, Virgin Australia has determined that travelers would prefer to choose their own food and beverage options, rather than receive a pre-determined snack. Therefore, the carrier has removed the previous snack from the ticket price in favor of an all-new ‘buy onboard’ menu. Initially, the menu will include popular snacks and beverages such as cheese and crackers and Australian wine, but will be expanded when travel demand increases to pre-pandemic levels. As always, Economy Class guests will continue to receive complimentary coffee, tea and water on every flight.
