On Friday (September 17, 2021), Virgin Australia announced an extension of Velocity Platinum, Gold and Silver status, as well as Virgin Australia flights rewards. Velocity Platinum and Gold members who booked an eligible flight by March 28, 2021 will automatically receive a further status extension through February 28, 2023. Platinum, Gold and Silver members with a review date from September 30, 2021 to April 30, 2022 will automatically receive an additional eight month status extension, until at least June 1st, 2022. Additionally, Velocity Frequent Flyer members who fly on eligible flights from October 1st, 2021 through March 31, 2022 will receive a significant boost to the Status Credits they earn. Members will earn double Status Credits for Economy bookings and a bonus of up to 45 percent Status Credit bonus for Business Class bookings.

In Friday’s announcement, Virgin Australia’s Acting Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO, David Marr, said,

“Many of our loyal members have earnt their highly sought-after Velocity Status memberships over many years and so we’re guaranteeing that eligible members will hold onto their tier benefits with more flying opportunities on the horizon. We’ve already given Velocity members more than 18 months of Status extensions during the course of the pandemic and our announcement today will give members even more certainty that they’ll continue to enjoy the tier benefits they value when flying with Virgin Australia or our international partner airlines well into the future.

“We’re also rewarding members who continue to fly Virgin Australia with significant bonus Status Credits for the six months from 1 October, which we know will really help to rebuild member balances as travel returns. And for the first time in almost a decade, Velocity will reward members with Status Credits on redemption bookings making it even easier to bank those Status Credits. Loyalty works both ways and this is our way of reaffirming our commitment to Velocity members who have remained loyal to us. We want to thank them for their ongoing support and we look forward to welcoming them onboard soon.”

As previously mentioned, for the first time in nearly a decade, Velocity reward members will receive Status Credits on Reward seat bookings for eligible domestic flights from October 1st, 2021 through March 31, 2022. The offer is retrospective to all existing and new Economy and Business Class Reward seat bookings. Velocity Frequent Flyer will also soon reopen international bookings on partner airlines, which has been paused since March 2020. Virgin Australia will also retain premium lounges (formerly known as The Club) in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, which will reopen by March 31, 2022.
