On Monday (June 3, 2024), Virgin Atlantic announced the launch of new codeshare partnerships with EL AL, along with fellow SkyTeam member airlines SAS and Saudia.  Virgin Atlantic will resume service to Israel on September 5, 2024, and the new codeshare partnership with EL Al will provide more choice and connectivity between the UK and Israel, and beyond to the U.S.  Virgin’s route between London Heathrow (LHR) and Tel Aviv (TLV) will be operated daily with an Airbus A330, offering connections via LHR to 14 U.S. destinations on 33 daily flights operated by Virgin Atlantic and their partner, Delta Air Lines. The two airlines will place their codes respective codes on LHR and TLV flights, providing up to four daily frequencies between the UK and Israel.  Frequent flyers will also enjoy reciprocal earn and redemption opportunities, along with premium recognition and tier benefits.

In Monday’s announcement, Virgin Atlantic’s Chief Commercial Officer, Juha Jarvinen, said,

“As we celebrate our 40th anniversary this month, we know that giving our customers more choice and award-winning service in the skies is what fuels our success, alongside working with the best partners.  We’re delighted to launch codeshares with our SkyTeam partners at SAS and Saudia today, enhancing our connectivity and offering greater customer benefits to our frequent flyers, who will be able to achieve rewards faster.

“Our return to Tel Aviv on 5 September will be welcome news for customers who have enjoyed our service since 2019, and this time round it’ll be strengthened by our new codeshare partnership with EL AL.”

With SAS formally joining SkyTeam on September 1st, 2024, Virgin Atlantic is working with the carrier to develop a new commercial partnership for seamless connectivity to/from key Scandinavian hubs.  From September 1st, Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club members will receive instant earning and redeeming opportunities, and SAS EuroBonus members will also be able to earn and redeem their points on Virgin Atlantic.

Additionally, Virgin Atlantic has launched a new codeshare partnership with Saudia, providing seamless connectivity between both networks.  The first phase is now live, meaning Virgin Atlantic customers traveling on flights from the U.S. can purchase onward connections via London Heathrow and Manchester on Saudia’s flights to Jeddah and Riyadh.  Opportunities to earn Virgin Points and Tier points, as well as Virgin Points redemptions, have been in place since March 2023, while online redemptions launched last month.  Saudia’s AlFursan members can now also earn and redeem their points on Virgin Atlantic flights.
