On Wednesday (September 18, 2024), Vietnam Airlines announced the launch of new exclusive service between Hanoi and Milan, Italy starting July 1st, 2025.  The new route will operate thrice weekly on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays with a state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner.   Vietnam Airlines also plans on adding service between Ho Chi Minh City and Milan after 2025. With the new Milan service, the carrier’s European network will grow to nine destinations.  Vietnam Airlines is the only carrier operating nonstop flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Paris, Frankfurt, and London, with Munich joining the airline’s network this October.

Vietnam is Italy’s largest trading partner in the ASEAN, while Italy ranks as Vietnam’s fourth largest EU trading partner.  Italy is also an emerging market for Vietnam’s aviation sector, with Vietnam welcoming 81,000 tourists from Italy in 2023 alone, approximately 89 percent of pre-pandemic levels.  The new Hanoi-Milan route will cater both to passengers from Italy, as well as those traveling from across Europe.
