On Friday (August 11, 2023), United Airlines announced the resumption of service between San Francisco and Beijing from November 2023. The carrier will also expand frequencies between San Francisco and Shanghai with daily service starting October 1st, 2023. The resumed and expanded services have been made possible by an agreement between the governments of the U.S. and China to increase the number of flights between the countries. Shanghai flights are currently bookable, while the Beijing schedule will be updated next week, pending government approval.

In Friday’s announcement, United Airlines’ SVP – Global Network Planning and Alliances, Patrick Quayle, said,

“We are grateful for this positive step forward in U.S. – China passenger air services, and we thank the many officials from both countries who partnered to make this reinstatement of air service possible. This announcement is good news for United customers because we believe that a daily flight to Beijing and a daily flight to Shanghai from San Francisco is consistent with the demand we see in the market right now – especially since our ability to serve China nonstop from our mid-continent hubs or the East Coast is severely limited by Russian overflight restrictions.”

At United Airlines, ‘Good Leads the Way.’ The airline operates the most comprehensive network among North American carriers with U.S. hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. As measured by available seat miles (ASMs), United is now the world’s largest airline. Shares in the company’s parent, United Airlines Holdings, Inc., are publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol ‘UAL.’
