United Airlines to Launch New Service to Marrakesh, Cebu and Medellin

United Airlines is launching new exclusive service between New York-Newark and Marrakesh, Morocco, new flights from Tokyo-Narita to Cebu, Philippines, and first-ever service between Houston and Medellin, Colombia.

On Thursday (March 7, 2024), United Airlines announced the introduction of three new international destinations and four new flights.  United will become to only U.S. airline to offer direct flights to Morocco, with new service between New York-Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh.  The carrier is also launching new flights between Tokyo-Narita (NRT) and Cebu (CEB) in the Philippines, as well as first-ever service between Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia.  Additionally, United is increasing flying to Porto, Portugal, Hong Kong and Seoul, South Korea, and will also resume Los Angeles-Shanghai flights.  Tickets for the new Shanghai and Cebu flights are now bookable, while flights to Marrakesh and Medellin will be available later this year. 


In Thursday’s route announcement, United Airlines’ SVP – Global Network Planning and Alliances, Patrick Quayle, said,


“We have consistently been ahead of the curve in finding hidden gem destinations for our customers to explore and remain committed to providing the most unique slate of travel options for their adventures abroad.  With our leading global network and elevated inflight experience, United has become the airline of choice for discerning customers looking for experiences they can’t have with any other carrier.”


Currently, United offers the largest and most diversified international network of any U.S. carrier, with direct service to 134 international destinations across 67 countries.  United serves more trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific destinations than all other U.S. airlines combined. Additionally, United offers flights to nine destinations that no other airline serves from the U.S. mainland, including Palma de Mallorca (SPAIN), Christchurch (New Zealand) and Dubrovnik (Croatia), among others.


Flights between Newark and Marrakesh will commence on October 24, 2024, with three weekly flights on a Boeing 767-300ER featuring 46 United Polaris® Business Class and 22 United Premium Plus® seats.  The new route complements United’s existing African service to Accra (Ghana) and Lagos (Nigeria), as well as to Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa.  United’s new year-round nonstop service between Tokyo-Narita and Cebu, Philippines will start on July 31, 2024.  The route will operate daily with a Boeing 737-800, providing convenient connections from United’s flights to Tokyo-Narita from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Newark and Houston.  United is the only U.S. airline offering trans-Pacific service to the Philippines, with daily service between San Francisco and Manila, and also from Manila to Guam and Palau.


As previously mentioned, United is also launching first-time nonstop service between Houston and Medellin, Colombia.  Starting October 27, 2024, the route will operate daily with a Boeing 737, complementing existing service from both Houston and Newark to Bogota.  In total, the carrier will serve 52 destinations in Latin America from Houston for winter 2024/25.  Additionally, four weekly flights between Shanghai and Los Angeles will start on August 29th with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which will increase to daily service from late October.  This route will complement United’s existing daily service from San Francisco to both Shanghai and Beijing.

United will also add a second daily Los Angeles-Hong Kong flight on October 26th with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, complementing existing double-daily flights between San Francisco and Hong Kong.  The carrier will also offer year-round twice daily service between San Francisco and Seoul starting October 25th.  As previously reported, United will offer new service Between Tokyo-Haneda and Guam this May. Finally, the airline will add a second daily flight between Newark, and Porto, Portugal, with a Boeing 757-200 starting May 23, 2024.  United is the only U.S. airline to serve Porto, and offers more service to Portugal than all other U.S. carriers combined.
