The airline has announced changes to its MileagePlus® Premier® program with the reduction of Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) and Premier Qualifying Points (PQF) thresholds next year, helping members earn 2022 status more quickly.
On Thursday (November 12, 2020), United Airlines announced changes to its MileagePlus® Premier® program which makes it easier to earn status in 2021 for the 2022 program year by reducing Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) and Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) next year. The airline will deposit 25 percent of PQP-only requirements in the Premier members’ accounts early next year, based on their 2021 Premier status level. United Airlines will also award bonus PQP for the first three flights taken in 2021 through March 31st. In today’s announcement, United’s Vice President of Loyalty and Marketing and MileagePlus President, Luc Bondar, said,
“Throughout this year, United has taken a leadership approach in enacting customer-friendly changes, and today's announcement of making it easier to qualify for status is just another step we are taking to make United a better airline for our customers. From announcing state-of-the-art cleaning and safety policies, to debuting innovative new technologies and now adjusting our loyalty program to reflect this new environment, United customers can feel confident that we are making progressive changes that reflect their needs both next year and, in the years to come.”
As previously mentioned, United will also award bonus PQP for the first three trips taken between January 1st and March 31, 2021, where members without Premier status will earn 50 percent bonus PQP and Premier members will earn 100 percent bonus PQP. Additionally, PQP earned from eligible MileagePlus credit cards will now count toward Premier 1K® status if the PQF requirement is met. United is also giving Premier members more flexibility by extending the expiration date of all PlusPoints, including those earned in 2019 and 2020, which were set to expire on January 1, 2020, by six months. Members who have earned Premier 1K status and 15,000 PQP will now also earn 20 PlusPoints for each additional 2,000 PQP in 2021 compared to every 3,000 PQP in 2020.
