United Airlines Launches Largest Ever Winter Schedule for 2024/25

As the official 2024/25 winter schedule starts today (October 24th), United Airlines has announced their largest ever schedule for the season, with a focus on Africa, Southern Europe and Latin America, as well as U.S. ski and sun destinations.

On Thursday (October 24, 2024), United Airlines announced the launch of their largest-ever winter schedule for the 2024/25 season which starts today.  During the peak winter season, United will operate nearly 4,600 flights daily, and will add flights at more than 140 U.S. airports.  The carrier will kick off their winter schedule today with inaugural service between New York/Newark and Marrakesh, Morocco, followed by the launch service between Tokyo/Narita and Cebu, Philippines on October 27th.  Later this winter, United will also add new direct service between Houston and Medellin, Colombia, and from Newark to Dominica.


In Thursday’s announcement, United Airlines’ SVP – Global Network Planning and Alliances, Patrick Quayle, said,


“This winter, we’re offering more flights to more destinations to give customers the widest range of places to explore.  Whether that’s adventuring somewhere new overseas, unwinding with some sun or enjoying the best ski towns in the country, we’re pleased to offer easy access to the top destinations for winter getaways.”


Additionally, United will offer their largest-ever Africa network this winter.  The carrier’s Newark-Marrakesh route will operate three times weekly with a Boeing 767-300ER, while new service between Washington Dulles and Dakar, Senegal with start in May 2025.  The new services complement the carrier’s recently expanded weekly flights from Washington D.C. to Accra, Ghana beginning in October, and to Lagos, Nigeria from December.


United will also extend summer services to popular European destinations this winter, including Greece, Spain, Italy and Portugal.  Several seasonal routes will also be extended into the winter season, including flights from Chicago O’Hare to Milan and Rome, Between Washington Dulles and Madrid, and daily service from Dulles to Lisbon.


Additionally, United will make their second daily service between San Francisco and Seoul Incheon year-round, and will also add a second daily flight between Los Angeles and Hong Kong.  The carrier will also offer daily service between Los Angeles and Shanghai starting October 26th with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.


Latin America will also see a nearly 10 percent larger winter schedule compared to last winter.  Starting November 13th, service between Houston and Medellin will become year-round, complementing United’s existing service to Bogota from Houston and Newark.  Starting February 15, 2024, United will become the only U.S. carrier connecting the Northeast to Dominica, with weekly direct service on a Boeing 737-700.  From San Francisco, United will also launch new year-round flights to Monterrey, Mexico, which will be operated by United Express partner SkyWest up to twice daily, along with new seasonal weekly service to Belize City, Belize.


For those traveling to the Caribbean this winter, United will begin service from New York/Newark to St. Kitts early, with weekly nonstop flights starting in November on a Boeing 737-900ER.  Service between Newark and Bermuda will also become year-round, and the carrier will also add daily service between Newark and Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago for Carnival.


United will also expand their network from Chicago, Houston, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles, with service to cities such as Buenos Aires (Argentina), Guatemala City (Guatemala), Morelia (Mexico), San Juan (Puerto Rico), and San Salvador (El Salvador).


From January through March 2025, the carrier will operate their largest-ever domestic network with nearly 140 airports offering more flights that the same period last year.  United will also offer nearly 13 percent more seats to sunny destinations such as Phoenix, Palm Springs and San Diego.  Starting December 19, 2024, United will launch new direct service from Washington/Dulles to Salt Lake City and Palm Springs.  For those heading to the Sunshine State, the airline is adding 20 additional departures from their hubs to cities such as Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Palm Beach.  United is also bringing back popular nonstop service from Cleveland to Cancun, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Fort Myers.


Travelers wishing to hit the slopes this winter will also enjoy more service to 11 top ski markets than any other U.S. carrier.  United will introduce larger, Embraer E175 aircraft operated by SkyWest to Aspen (Colorado) and Bishop/Mammoth (California). 

The carrier will also launch new winter seasonal weekend service between Dulles and Bozeman (Montana), as well as an additional Newark-Bozeman flight.  From February through March, United will offer new seasonal weekend service between Chicago and Gunnison/Crested Butte (Colorado), while new seasonal service between Los Angeles and Kalispell (Montana) will start in February. 


A second daily flight between Newark and Jackson Hole (Wyoming) will also operate from December through March.  During the peak holiday season between December and January, United also offer daily service between Los Angeles and Montrose/Telluride (Colorado).  Those wishing to visit Sun Valley (Idaho) will enjoy twice daily service from both Los Angeles and San Francisco during the peak holiday season.  Finally, United will extend seasonal service between Denver and Bishop/Mammoth (California) with twice weekly flights through April 2025.
