Turkish Airlines started new service between Istanbul and Detroit on Thursday, November 16, 2023. The route will now operate three times weekly, with a fourth frequency to be added after December 25, 2023.
On Thursday (November 16, 2023), Turkish Airlines, the national flag carrier of Türkiye, announced that start of new service between Istanbul Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. The route will now operate three times weekly, with a fourth frequency to be added after December 25th. This is the carrier’s 13th U.S. destination and Turkish Airlines’ 345th network destination.
In Thursday’s announcement, Turkish Airlines’ Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, said,
“Today is a special day as we gather here to celebrate the inaugural flight of Turkish Airlines to the city of Detroit. We have brought two great cities, Istanbul and Detroit, closer together by initiating this direct flight. We’re thrilled to connect Istanbul and Detroit, creating opportunities for travel, business, and cultural exploration. As the national flag carrier of Türkiye, our beautiful country, we reach to more countries than any other airline in the world, and by adding new destinations to our ever-expanding network, such as Detroit, we continue to serve our primary mission of uniting people and cultures all around the globe.”
Turkish Airlines’ Inaugural flight was welcomed warmly in Detroit with a traditional, ceremonial water cannon salute by the airport’s ARFF team, followed by an event at the airport attended by Turkish Airlines executives, local officials and aviation enthusiasts. Located in the U.S. State of Michigan, Detroit is known as ‘Motor City’ thanks to the automotive industry presence, and also has a rich musical and cultural heritage.
