On Monday (March 2, 2020), TAP Air Portugal announced new weekly service between Porto and Sal in Cape Verde from June 20, 2020. The departing flight from Porto will operate on Saturdays, taking off at 10:25PM and arriving on the Cape Verde island at 12:55AM. The return flight departs Sal at 1:45AM and arrives in Porto at 7:55AM (all times are local). Describing Sal in Cape Verde, TAP Air Portugal’s announcement Monday stated,

“The island of volcanic origin, with its rocky plains and white sand deserts, is considered to be one of the best destinations for idyllic holidays. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and composed of sand from the desert, Sal has its own charm which enchants visitors not only because of its beauty, but also due to the fish and shellfish-based cuisine and Cape Verdean rhythms – morna and funaná – that guarantee good times.”

TAP Air Portugal has replaced 70 percent of their long-haul fleet in a single year, something unprecedented in the industry. The carrier’s medium-haul fleet consists of 57 aircraft including seven Airbus A320neos, eight A321neos, four A321LRs, and 41 Airbus A320ceo Family (previous generation) aircraft. The long-haul fleet consists of 19 Airbus A330neos and seven A330ceos. Over the last four years, TAP’s fleet has grown from 75 to 107 aircraft, and this year the carrier expects to receive ten new A320neo and A330neo Family aircraft. By 2025, the airline will receive a total of 71 new aircraft, creating one of the world’s youngest and most efficient fleets.
