Swiss International Air Lines has launched two new initiatives to sustainably reduce food waste within their SWISS Saveurs Economy Class catering concept. Customers can now pre-order items, and guests on the final flights of the day can purchase discounted items to go.
Today (April 13, 2022), Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) announced two new initiatives to sustainably reduce onboard food waste. Within their SWISS Saveurs catering concept for Economy Class on short and medium-haul flights, travelers can now pre-order freshly prepared items from the SWISS Saveurs menu in advance of their flight. Additionally, guests traveling on the last evening flights of the day can now enjoy ‘SWISS Saveurs to Go’, whereby fresh unsold items can be purchased at substantially reduced prices. The variety of items on the SWISS Saveurs menu ranges from salads and sweet bakery items to sandwiches made to the recipes of Confiserie Sprüngli, Switzerland’s renowned confectioner, as well as the popular Beyond Meat Burger.
In Wednesday’s announcment, SWISS’ Chief Commercial Officer, Tamur Goudarzi Pour, said,
“Reducing waste and avoiding having to unnecessarily dispose of unused food items have a vital place in our overall sustainability strategy. In providing this new pre-ordering option, we aim to further enhance our ability to align the production of our freshly prepared inflight food items to customer demand, and thereby reduce the volumes of unused food products that we have to dispose of on board.”
From April 20th, customers traveling on short and medium-haul flights to or from Zurich and Geneva will be able to pre-order items from the SWISS Saveurs menu up to 36 hours prior to departure via the separate swiss.com/saveurs-preorder booking link. This applies to all flights of over 50 minutes flying time. Under the ‘Saveurs to Go’ program, cabin crews on the last evening flights returning to Zurich and Geneva will offer fresh unsold menu items to customers. The crew will make an announcment shortly before landing and the products will be presented in a ‘surprise bag’ containing one or two fresh items at a substantial discount to the regular purchase price.
