Swiss and SBB are expanding their joint air and rail intermodal product from Geneva Airport. The expansion will seamlessly connect SWISS guests to the western Swiss towns of Vevey, Montreux, Sion, Sierre, Visp and Brig.
On Monday (June 3, 2024), Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) announced an expansion of their intermodal air and rail offer with the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) to/from Geneva Airport. The expansion includes convenient rail connections to the western Swiss towns of Vevey, Montreux, Sion, Sierre, Visp and Brig. This will allow travelers arriving in Switzerland to seamlessly travel onward to popular vacation resorts in Canton Valais such as Crans-Montana, Verbier, Zermatt and Saas-Fee. The added Swiss Air Rail connections will become bookable on June 11, 2024.
In Monday’s announcement, SWISS’ Chief Commercial Officer, Heike Birlenbach, said,
“This smart interlinking of air and rail transportation delivers a seamless and thus a more relaxing overall travel experience. It fits fully with the times, and it meets a genuine customer need. So, I’m delighted that we can now offer our SWISS travellers this Air Rail service to even more destinations in Switzerland.”
Als0 commenting on the intermodal network expansion from Geneva Airport, SBB’s Board Member and Head of Passenger Services Markets, Véronique Stephan, added,
“The expansion of the SWISS Air Rail product to these new destinations in the cantons of Vaud and Valais is a great example of customer-oriented multimodal mobility that provides clear customer benefits. Working together, we and SWISS are building further bridges between air and rail transport, and are enabling our shared customers to get smoothly and comfortably from the airport to the Alps. We’re inviting them jointly aboard.”
Customers traveling on a SWISS Air Rail itinerary will only need to check-in once, and will be issued their boarding pass, which includes the rail ticket, directly from SWISS. Customers can also use their rail ticket one day after their SWISS arrival, or one day before their SWISS departure. Intermodal customers are also offered a connection guarantee in the case of a delay, while Miles & More members will earn miles and points for the rail portion of their journey as well. Additionally, SWISS First and SWISS Business guests travel First Class by train.
With the new destinations, the SWISS Air Rail network grows to 17 destinations. The service is already available between Geneva Cornavin (Geneva’s main station), and Fribourg, Bern, Interlaken, Lausanne, Lucerne, Lugano, Bellinzona and Basel (Switzerland), Munich (Germany), and Bregenz (Austria).
