Spirit Airlines Welcomes Milestone 200th New Aircraft Delivery From Airbus

Spirit Airlines has today announced the landmark delivery of their 200th new aircraft from Airbus. The aircraft, an Airbus A320neo registration N973NK, was assembled at Airbus’ U.S. manufacturing facility in Mobile, Alabama.

On Monday (April 24, 2023), Spirit airlines celebrated the milestone delivery of their 200th new aircraft from Airbus. The new airplane, an Airbus A320neo registration N973NK, was delivered from Airbus’ U.S. FAL in Mobile, Alabama, and was prepared for service at Spirit’s MRO facility in Detroit, Michigan. During 2022, Spirit inducted 13 new aircraft, and is scheduled to receive a total of 26 new Airbus A320neo Family aircraft in 2023, including their first A321neo. The carrier transitioned to al all-Airbus fleet in 2006, after retiring their fleet of MD-80 derivatives.


In Monday’s announcement, Spirit Airlines’ President and CEO, Ted Christie, said,

Spirit's Pilots truly enjoy flying our modern aircraft fleet, and we’d like to thank Airbus for their long-term partnership. I’d also like to recognize all our Spirit Family Members and business partners who prepare our planes for service and keep them in tip-top shape with safety as their top priority.”


Also commenting on the landmark delivery, Airbus Americas’ President and CEO, C. Jeffrey Knittel, added,


“The 200th aircraft delivery from Airbus to Spirit Airlines is not only a major milestone, but also reflects the trust they have in our products that provide the best passenger experience their customers demand combined with the cost and environmentally efficient operations the airline needs. Spirit has one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the U.S. thanks to the benefits offered by our A320 Family of aircraft.”


Spirit’s newest aircraft feature an upgraded interior with wider, lower weight, and more comfortable seats. The carrier’s ‘Big Front Seats’ are also larger and feature more pre-recline. Spirit also recently introduced high-speed Wi-Fi on their A320 and A321 sub-fleets.
