Spirit Airlines Launches New Daily Nonstop Service from Austin and Houston to Monterrey, Mexico

Spirit Airlines has today launched new daily nonstop service to Monterrey International Airport in Northeast Mexico from both Austin and Houston. Monterrey is Spirit’s fourth destination in Mexico, joining Cancun, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta.

On Thursday (October 6, 2022), Spirit Airlines announced the launch of new daily nonstop service from Austin Bergstrom International Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston to Monterrey International Airport (MTY) in the Northeastern Mexican state capital of Nuevo León. Monterrey offers a unique mix of a modern cityscape, picturesque old towns, and stunning mountain views, and is Spirit’s only inland Mexican destination. Monterrey is the carrier’s fourth destination in Mexico, joining Cancun (CUN), Los Cabos (SJD) and Puerto Vallarta (PVR).


In Thursday’s announcment, Spirit Airlines’ Vice President of Network Planning, John Kirby, said,


“It’s exciting to launch service in Monterrey with a milestone route from Austin that provides critical connectivity and a nonstop route from Houston that expands our extensive international service at IAH. Monterrey attracts vacationers, and family and friends all year long and is a great addition for our Guests looking for high-value options to visit Mexico’s third-largest city.”


Also commenting on the new service, Monterrey International Airport’s (OMA’s) Managing Director, Ricardo Dueñas, said,


"Spirit is a very important partner for OMA. Together, we are strengthening our ties to the United States from Monterrey International Airport to key destinations such as Austin and Houston.”
