Southwest Airlines Expands Service From San Diego and San Jose, Plus Within Hawaii

Starting June 5, 2022, Southwest will bolster their San Diego service with 20 weekday flights to San Francisco and Sacramento, as well as 14 weekday flights to Oakland. From San Jose, the carrier will add flights to the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii will see more inter-island flights.

On Tuesday (April 12, 2022), Southwest Airlines announced a major schedule expansion from San Diego and San Jose, as well as additional inter-island flights within Hawaii. Starting June 5, 2022, the carrier will offer 20 weekday flights from San Diego to both San Jose and Sacramento, as well as 14 weekday flights to Oakland. Travelers from San Jose will enjoy additional service within California and to the Pacific Northwest with service to Boise, Spokane, Portland (Oregon) and Seattle. Additionally, starting June 5th, Southwest will launch new daily service Between Sacramento and Santa Barbara, as well as between Kahului (Maui) and Lihue (Kauai). The airline is also increasing inter-island service within Hawaii.


In Tuesday’s announcment, Southwest Airlines’ EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, Andrew Watterson said,


“For a gamut of travelers seeking business opportunity, faraway fun, or family time, these new routes and additional flights put the Hospitality and value of Southwest Airlines in front of more of our Customers. We recently extended our flight schedule to early November, and we’re making available new service sooner for planning early summertime journeys.”


Commenting on the carrier’s San Jose expansion, Southwest Airlines’ Vice President – Network Planning, Adam Decaire, added,


“For the summer and fall, we’ve given San Jose Customers more flights on California short-haul business routes, and into Las Vegas. Based on currently published schedules, Southwest offers more service between Silicon Valley and the Northwest than any other carrier.”

Finally, Southwest will triple their service between South Florida and Cuba beginning May 4th, with three daily flights between Fort Lauderdale and Havana. The carrier will also add a Saturday roundtrip between Tampa and Havana on May 7th, complementing their existing daily service.
