Smartwings Completes First Ever Boeing 737-8 MAX Flight to Antarctica
Late last month, Smartwings completed the world's first-ever Boeing 737-8 MAX flight to Antarctica. The flight was operated under contract to members of the Norwegian Polar Institute for transport to their base.

On Wednesday (February 2, 2022), Smartwings announced the successful completion of the first-ever Boeing 737-8 MAX flight to land in Antarctica, which took place on January 26, 2022. The flight was operated under contract with members of the Norwegian Polar Institute for transport to their base at the Troll Research Station. The flight departed from Oslo, Norway for N’Djamena, Chad, and then on to Cape Town South Africa before arriving at Troll Airfield in Antarctica, where the aircraft remained on the ground for 120 minutes. In total, the route covered 15,680 kilometers

Troll Research Station is located 235 kilometers from the sea in the eastern part of Princess Martha’s Coast in Queen Maud’s Land. The work at the station is dedicated to environmental and climate monitoring and scientific research, as well as mapping.
