On Tuesday (May 2, 2023), SAS announced the launch of new service between Copenhagen and Bangkok starting October 30, 2023. The route will operate three times weekly with departures from Copenhagen on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with an Airbus A350-900. Travelers to Thailand will enjoy the natural beauty of the country and numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming and bathing, as well as the country’s rich culture and history. Numerous temples, palaces and other historical sites are waiting to be explored throughout Bangkok and the rest of the country.
In Tuesday’s announcement, SAS’ President and CEO, Anko van der Werff, said,
“Thailand and the Scandinavian countries have a long history of friendship and cooperation and returning with a direct route after nine years is a true pleasure. The Bangkok route will offer a perfect entry point for wider Thailand and be a great option for both business and leisure travelers. Bangkok is a vibrant meeting point for international businesses and the country has topped several rankings as the world's most popular tourist destination with its beautiful beaches, lush jungles and extraordinary Thai cuisine. Regardless of reason to travel, we are excited to once again offer a direct connection between Scandinavia and the Land of Smiles.”
As part of SAS’ winter 2023/24 flying program, the carrier will also continue three times weekly service to Tokyo-Haneda (HND) and Shanghai (PVG).

SAS is the leading airline in Scandinavia, typically carrying over 30 million passengers annually from its main hubs in Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm to destinations in Europe, the U.S. and Asia. The company has targeted a reduction in carbon emissions by 25 percent by 2025, compared to 2005 levels, and hopes to transition to 100% biofuel for domestic flights by 2030. SAS also offers ground handling services, technical maintenance and cargo services. The carrier is a founding member of the Star Alliance, which celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2022.
