SAS has today announced their return to Greenland for the first time in over 20 years, with the departure of their inaugural nonstop flight between Copenhagen and Nuuk. The route launch coincides with the opening of Nuuk’s new international airport.

On Friday (June 27, 2025), SAS announced the launch of new direct service between Copenhagen and Nuuk in Greenland. This marks the carrier’s return to Greenland for the first time in over two decades, and coincides with the opening of Nuuk’s new international airport. The new route is part SAS’ broader strategy to build meaningful long-term connectivity across the North Atlantic and beyond. Flights will now operate three times weekly during the summer season, and the route has been developed in close coordination with Greenlandic partners, including Air Greenland.
In Friday’s announcement, SAS’ President and CEO, Anko van der Werff, said,
“This route reflects our broader ambition: to be a resilient, adaptable, and collaborative airline for the future. Whether traveling for family, work, or discovery, our role is to enable purposeful journeys, with respect and responsibility. And as the most punctual airline in the world, we are proud to bring that reliability to a route as meaningful as this one.”
