On Wednesday (March 30, 2022), SAS announced the appointment of Erno Hildén as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective April 2022. Mr. Hildén will succeed current CFO Magnus Örnberg, who will leave the airline this spring, but will temporarily remain in his current role to ensure a seamless transition. Erno Hildén has held various senior leadership roles in the global airline industry including service as CFO and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Finnair, as well as Vice President for Privatization at SAUDIA.

In Wednesday’s announcement, SAS’ President and Chief Executive Officer, Anko van der Werff, said,

“I am very pleased to welcome Erno Hildén to SAS. Erno’s extensive financial experience combined with aviation expertise makes him a valuable addition to SAS top management team. He will play a key role during the current transformation plan, SAS FORWARD, where we are securing a long term financially stable and competitive SAS.

Also commenting on his upcoming role as SAS’ CFO, Erno Hildén added,

“I am proud and honored to be joining the SAS group. A strong brand with true Scandinavian roots aiming to become a global leader in sustainable aviation is a stimulating environment where I am sure I will be able to contribute. I am excited to be part of SAS FORWARD and am looking forward enabling the changes necessary to secure the long-term success of SAS.”

SAS is the leading airline in Scandinavia, normally carrying over 30 million passengers annually from its main hubs in Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm to 125 destinations in Europe, the US and Asia (pre-pandemic figures). The company has targeted a reduction in carbon emissions by 25 percent by 2025, compared to 2005 levels, and hopes to transition to 100% biofuel for domestic flights by 2030. SAS also offers ground handling services, technical maintenance and cargo services. The carrier is a founding member of the Star Alliance, which offers an extensive global network.
