CFM International has today announced that Ryanair has signed a purchase agreement for 30 CFM LEAP-1B spare engines in support of their growing fleet of Boeing 737 MAX airplanes.

On Tuesday (June 10, 2025), CFM International announced that Ryanair has signed a purchase agreement for 30 CFM LEAP-1B engine spares. The engines will support the carrier’s growing fleet of Boeing 737 MAX jets. Ryanair has been a CFM customer since 1998, and operates the largest fleet of CFM-powered Boeing airplanes, including the largest CFM56-powered 737 NG fleet in Europe. Currently, Ryanair operates 181 737-8200 MAX airplanes, with 29 still to be delivered from a 2014 order. The carrier previously placed an order in 2023 for LEAP-1B engines to power up to 300 Boeing 737-10 MAX aircraft.
In Tuesday’s announcement, Ryanair’s CEO, Michael O’Leary, said,
“We are pleased to continue to develop our longstanding partnership with CFM (Safran & GE Aerospace). Today’s purchase of 30 new LEAP-1B spare engines is a significant commitment to improve the operational resilience of our Group airlines. These latest technology CFM engines reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per seat by up to 20 percent when installed on our B737 MAX fleet, which will further widen Ryanair’s cost leadership over competitor airlines in Europe.”
Also commenting on the new LEAP-1B order, CFM International’s President and CEO, Gaël Méheust, added,
“This new agreement is another milestone in the long and successful partnership we have built with Ryanair. We look forward to continuing to support Ryanair’s significant growth by providing them with industry-leading reliability and utilization standards.”
Since entering service, CFM LEAP-1B engines have accumulated nearly 30 million flight hours over 12 million cycles. The advanced CFM LEAP engine Family delivers a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 15 percent compared to CFM56 engines, along with a substantially smaller noise footprint.
