Royal Brunei Airlines and Japan Airlines Launch New Codeshare Partnership

Royal Brunei Airlines has launched a new codeshare partnership with Japan Airlines, which will enhance connectivity between Japan, Brunei Darussalam and beyond.

On Wednesday (October 1st, 2025), Royal Brunei Airlines announced the signing of a new codeshare agreement with Japan Airlines.  Under the agreement, both airlines will place their respective marketing code on select routes operated by the other airline.  Initially, JAL will place their ‘JL’ code on RB-operated flights between Bandar Seri Begawan and Tokyo (Narita), while RB will place their ‘BI’ code on select JAL-operated domestic flights in Japan, including key cities such as Osaka and Nagoya.  For international travelers, the codeshare partnership will also improve connectivity across Southeast Asia, Australia, and Japan.


In Wednesday’s announcement, Royal Brunei Airlines’ CEO, Captain Sabirin Hj Abd Hamid, said,


“This partnership with Japan Airlines supports RB’s network expansion strategy and enhances our guests’ travel experience with greater connectivity and convenience.  In these challenging times, collaborating with partners is one of best way to expand our network.  We will be partnering with more airlines in the coming months to further expand RB network.” 


Royal Brunei Airlines, the country’s flag carrier, was established on November 18, 1974 as an independent corporation wholly owned by the government of Brunei Darussalam. The carrier’s inaugural flight took off from Bandar Seri Begawan to Singapore on May 14, 1975. Operating from their hub in Bandar Seri Begawan, Royal Brunei Airlines offers competitive fares along with complimentary meals, baggage, and entertainment, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience.  The carrier operates a modern fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A320neos.
