Qatar Airways to Launch New Service to Lusaka and Harare Starting August 6, 2021

Qatar Airways will launch new service to Lusaka, Zambia and Harare, Zimbabwe from August 6, 2021, expanding their African network with over 100 weekly flights to 27 destinations. The routes will be operated with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

On Monday (June 21, 2021), Qatar Airways announced an expansion of their African network with new service from Doha to Lusaka, Zambia and Harare, Zimbabwe starting August 6, 2021. The new routes will be operated with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, expanding the carrier’s African network to over 100 weekly flights to 27 destinations. The added services will bolster Qatar Airways’ global network to 140 destinations with seamless connections via their hub at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar.


In Monday’s announcement, Qatar Airways Group’s Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said,

“Africa continues to be an area of strong growth for Qatar Airways and launching this service will support the development of the economy and tourism sector in both countries. Not only do we continue to rebuild our network after the pandemic, but we are actively expanding it with the addition of these two key destinations. These are the fifth and sixth new destinations in Africa added to our network since the start of the pandemic, taking our total new destinations added across the globe to 10.”

With 30 tons of cargo capacity per flight, the new routes will also support the increasing demand for trade between Zambia and Zimbabwe and other network destinations including London, Frankfurt and New York, as well as multiple gateways in China.


Qatar Airways is the national carrier of the state of Qatar and from mid-summer 2021 will operate over 1,200 weekly flights to more than 140 destinations, providing more flexible travel options to more global destinations than any other airline. Qatar Airways was named the ‘World’s Best Airline’ in the 2019 World Airline Awards managed by Skytrax as well as the ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’ and ‘World’s Best Business Class.’ The carrier has also been awarded the title for ‘Best Business Class Seat’ in recognition of their ground-breaking Qsuite product which offers a spacious 1-2-1 seat layout and is available on flights to more than 40 destinations including Johannesburg, Frankfurt, New York and Singapore.


Additionally, Qatar Airways is the only carrier to have ever received the prestigious “Skytrax Airline of the Year” title five times. The airline normally serves over 170 global destinations with a fleet of more than 250 modern aircraft. Qatar Airways’ primary hub is located at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar.
