GE Aerospace has today announced that Qatar Airways has ordered over 400 engines, including 60 GE9X engines and 260 GEnx engines, with additional options and spares to power their next-generation Boeing 777-9 and 787 Dreamliner jets.

On Wednesday (May 14, 2025), GE Aerospace announced that Qatar Airways has placed an order for over 400 aircraft engines, GE’s largest-ever widebody engine order. The order includes 60 GE9X engines and 260 GEnx engines, plus additional options and spares to power Qatar Airways’ next-generation Boeing 777-9 and 787 Dreamliner aircraft. These new agreements with GE Aerospace reflect Qatar Airways’ commitment to performance and efficiency, helping to drive the region’s economic growth as the carrier reaches 170 destinations across five continents.
In Wednesday’s announcement, GE Aerospace’s Chairman, Larry Culp, said,
“We are extremely honored to deepen our relationship with Qatar Airways and grateful to them for placing their trust in us with our largest-ever widebody engine deal. Our widebody engines — the GE9X and GEnx — are marvels of modern engineering, with the durability and reliability to power flight across the longest distances. We appreciate President Trump’s support for this historic agreement.”
Also commenting on the landmark engine order, Qatar Airways’ CEO, Badr Mohammed Al Meer, added,
“Our latest agreement with GE Aerospace reflects our confidence in the performance of the GE9X and GEnx engines to power our fleet of Boeing 777-9 and 787 aircraft. These next-generation engines are critical components in our strategy to ensure our fleet remains modern and efficient. Qatar Airways has ambitious plans for the future, and we value our continued partnership with GE Aerospace and their commitment to supporting our operational needs.”
With the Boeing 777X and GE9X engine, Qatar Airways combines the world’s largest twin-engine commercial passenger jet and its most powerful commercial aircraft engine. Boasting a diameter of nearly 12 feet, the GE9X has already completed thousands of hours of both ground and on-wing testing. The engine is certified for 105,000 pounds of thrust, but set a world record in 2019 for generating 134,300 pounds of thrust. Available only on the Boeing 777X Family of 777-8 and 777-9 aircraft, the GE9X offers 10 percent better fuel consumption versus its predecessor, the GE90-115B, and emissions that are a generation ahead of the competition.
The GEnx engine powers two-thirds of a Boeing 787 Dreamliners currently in service. As with all GE Aerospace engines, the GE9X and GEnx engines are certified to run on current SAF blends.
