Qantas announced Wednesday new non-stop service between Tamworth and Brisbane. Starting March 29, 2020 customers will enjoy the flexibility of six weekly flights to the ‘Sunshine State.’ The route will be operated with a Bombardier Q400 (DeHavilland Canada Dash-8) accommodating 74 customers. The new offering will provide 23,000 seats annually for holidaymakers and business travelers, boosting tourism between both cities. The new direct service will give Tamworth residents better access to the Queensland capital and seamless connections to the greater Queensland region and international destinations. Likewise, the new service will connect Queenslanders with the New England region and its year-round calendar of exciting activities. In Wednesday’s announcement, QantasLink’s CEO, John Gissing said,

“Qantas has a long and proud history in Tamworth, and we’re pleased to be offering this new service and the opportunities it provides. As Australia’s largest regional airline, we know the value of connecting country cities to capitals and we’re proud to be bringing Brisbane a little closer to Australia’s country music capital. Direct flights to Brisbane gives our Tamworth customers more options for one-stop connections into Queensland and around the world through our international network.”

Also commenting on Wednesday’s exciting news, Tamworth Parliament Member, Kevin Anderson said,

“This Government has invested more than $6.2 million to upgrade the Tamworth Regional Airport Terminal, to make it the front gate for Tamworth to the world. Tamworth has so much to offer as a regional centre of excellence in food production, entertainment, health and education. This air service will help capitalize on what we have to offer. I’m really pleased to hear in these tough times that Qantas is prepared to front up and create a new air route for this city.”

QantasLink is offering inaugural one-way fares of $129 between Tamworth and Brisbane for travel between March 29th and October 25, 2020. The special limited time fares are available through Christmas Eve. QantasLink currently operates 29 weekly flights between Tamworth and Sydney. The regional airline also operates a heavy maintenance facility in Tamworth and has supported the Tamworth Country Music festival for nine years running.
