On Monday (September 13, 2021), Qanats announced the launch of three weekly return flights between Adelaide and Townsville Airport starting today. The flights will be operated by QantasLink with Embraer E190s as part of a new agreement with Alliance Airlines that was initiated last May and will provide over 550 seats weekly. The 94-seat E190s have opened up several new routes that wouldn’t have been possible with the existing Qantas fleet, including three new routes from Townsville and four new routes from Adelaide.

In Monday’s announcement, QantasLink’s CEO, John Gissing, said,

“We know that Australians are eager to travel again, and these new flights open up a direct connection between Adelaide and Townsville just in time for the school holidays. Adelaide has been very popular with travellers over the past year with its culture, entertainment and as a gateway to Australia’s world-famous wine regions. These flights will help drive more visitors to Townsville which will help local businesses in their recovery from the impact of COVID. Our customers and frequent flyers will enjoy our premium service on these new flights, whether its complimentary food and drinks, baggage or access to lounges in Adelaide and Townsville.”

To celebrate the launch of the new route, Qantas is currently offering one-way fares from $179 for travel between October 2021 and March 2022. To qualify for the low introductory fares, travel must be booked by Saturday, September 25, 2021. The new service has been made possible with the support of Adelaide Airport, the South Australia Government and Queensland Airport Limited. Additionally, the Qantas Fly Flexible policy offers unlimited free date changes for travel before February 28, 2022, though a fare difference may apply.
