Qantas will add a weekly frequency between Broken Hill and Sydney from June 21st. The route was originally launched in April with two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays, and the third weekly frequency will be operated on Tuesdays.
On Tuesday (June 7, 2022), Qantas announced the addition of a third weekly Tuesday frequency between Broken Hill and Sydney, expanding existing service on Mondays and Fridays, which was launched last April. From November 1st, service on the route will be increased to five weekly return flights. The new Tuesday frequency will be operated with a 50-seat Bombardier Q300 turboprop aircraft (now designated De Havilland Canada Dash 8-300). Additionally, Qantas will add flights around key tourism events in the region such as the Mundi Mundi Bash, Broken Heel Festival and the September school holidays.
In today’s announcment, QantasLink’s CEO, John Gissing, said,
“Since we started operating to Broken Hill, we’ve sold out several flights and our bookings looking ahead are great which gives us the confidence to add in another service to offer more convenience for both locals and visitors. When we launched, we indicated that we were in it for the long haul, and we are really happy with the response. We are proud to serve Broken Hill and as a regional airline born in the outback, we understand the importance of connecting remote communities with major centres. We’d like to thank our customers in Broken Hill for giving us a go.”
Customers traveling on the Broken Hill-Sydney route will continue to enjoy Qantas’ premium service with complimentary food and drinks, baggage, and lounge access in Sydney prior to departure. Additionally, travelers will appreciate convenient connections via Sydney to the carrier’s extensive domestic and international network. Since the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Qantas has launched over 50 new domestic routes.
