PLAY Airlines Welcomes Anna Fríða Gísladóttir as New Director of Marketing

Play Airlines has hired Anna Fríða Gísladóttir as the airline’s new Director of Marketing. In her new role, Anna Fríða will lead PLAY’s marketing strategy, while continuing to build the new airline’s brand awareness.

On Thursday (February 10, 2022), PLAY Airlines announced the hiring of Anna Fríða Gísladóttir as the company’s new Director of Marketing. In her new position, Ms. Gísladóttir succeeds Steinar Þór Ólafsson, who is pursuing other opportunities. As PLAY’s new Director of Marketing, Anna Fríða will lead the company’s marketing strategy, while continuing to build awareness of the PLAY Airlines brand. Ms. Gísladóttir joins PLAY from BIOEFFECT, where she served as Brand & Campaign Manager internationally, and also oversaw marketing efforts in Iceland. She previously was Marketing Director for Domino’s in Iceland for seven years, and also sat on the company’s Board of Directors. Anna Fríða is currently on the Board of íMARK, the Icelandic Marketing Association, where she oversees a weekly social media segment, highlighting Iceland’s biggest marketing news.


Founded in 2019 by Arnar Magnússon, PLAY is a new Iceland-based low-cost carrier (LCC) which operates flights between Iceland and Europe, and will launch transatlantic long-haul service between Europe and North America in spring 2022. The airline launched their inaugural passenger revenue flight on Thursday, June 24, 2021, with service between Keflavík International Airport (KEF) and London Stansted (STN). PLAY’s fleet of Airbus A320neo and A321neos currently connect customers to 16 European destinations, growing to 24 in 2022. This spring, the carrier will have added new aircraft to their fleet, prior to the launch of low-cost transatlantic flights to North America.
