On Thursday (May 15, 2025), Delta Air Lines announced the appointment of Brad Sheehan as SVP – Corporate Safety, Security and Compliance, effective June 5, 2025. Sheehan will succeed David Garrison, who has decided to retire after an illustrious 34-year career with the airline. Brad Sheehan is a seasoned aviation safety leader with over 25 years of industry experience. Currently, he serves as VP of Flights Operations, and also flies for Delta as an Airbus A320 Captain. Mr. Sheehan’s extensive background overseeing training, technology and flight standards also includes leading Delta’s Flight Safety team. During his time with the carrier, he furthered Delta’s safety culture, while working collaboratively with industry partners and the FAA to bring about national airspace improvements.
In Thursday’s announcement, Delta’s EVP and Chief of Operations, John Laughter, said,
“In 2017, Delta became one of the first airlines to have our safety management system approved by the FAA. Brad has been a key leader in turning that system into a culture here at Delta.”
Prior to joining Delta, Brad Sheehan held a number of senior leadership roles in operations and safety at several other airlines. Due to his expertise and dedication to safety, he has earned appointments to five FAA-required positions, including Director of Operations and Director of Safety at other airlines and his current role as System Chief Pilot for Delta. In his new position, Sheehan will serve as the FAA-designated Director of Safety, advising the carrier’s leadership and liaising with regulators on all safety-related matters. Mr. Sheehan holds a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University, and also holds several certificates in business management from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
