On Tuesday (January 16, 2024), PLAY Airlines announced the launch of new service between Reykjavik and Split in Croatia. Starting May 28, 2024, the route will operate once weekly on Tuesdays for the summer 2024 season. This marks the first time ever that scheduled flights will be operated between Iceland and Split, and this is also PLAY’s first destination in Croatia. For 2024, PLAY’s network will include approximately 40 destinations.
In Tuesday’s announcement, PLAY’s CEO, Birgir Jónsson, said,
“Split is a dream destination for us at PLAY. It has beautiful landscapes and a vibrant culture. I have no doubt this will be one of our most popular destinations this year. Everywhere we go, we give the competition a run for their money. We want to make travel more affordable and I am sure our Split services will be well received by people who want to visit our beautiful country of Iceland.”
Founded in 2019 by Arnar Magnússon and launched in June 2021, PLAY is a new Iceland-based low-cost carrier (LCC) which operates flights to nearly 40 destinations between Iceland and Europe, as well as to North America. The carrier’s core motto is ‘Pay Less PLAY More’, meaning that the airline’s customers spend less on airfare and more while enjoying their holiday destination. PLAY’s fleet of 10 Airbus A320/A321neos is the youngest fleet in Europe.
