On Tuesday (June 6, 2023), PLAY Airlines announced an expansion of frequencies between Iceland and Amsterdam (AMS) to daily service from October 29, 2023. For the current summer 2023 season, the carrier offers up to five weekly flights to and from AMS on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Inbound customers to Iceland can also enjoy seamless one-stop connections to PLAY’s North American network including service to New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Baltimore and Toronto.
In Tuesday’s announcement, PLAY’s CEO, Birgir Jónsson, said,
“Operating daily flights from Amsterdam signifies a significant milestone for PLAY. Getting access to Schiphol Airport is a considerable accomplishment for our young airline, given the high demand from other carriers. The expansion of our operations in Amsterdam is expected to not only bolster our passenger numbers but also generate substantial revenue due to the many cargo opportunities available. I take great pride in the achievement of our dedicated PLAY team and their success.”
Founded in 2019 by Arnar Magnússon and launched in June 2021, PLAY is a new Iceland-based low-cost carrier (LCC) which operates flights to nearly 40 destinations between Iceland and Europe, as well as to North America. The carrier’s core motto is ‘Pay Less PLAY More’, meaning that the airline’s customers spend less on airfare and more while enjoying their holiday destination. PLAY’s fleet of 10 Airbus A320/A321neos with an average age of two years is the youngest fleet in Europe.
